For over twenty-eight years, since 1982, Frederick Dose Appraisals Ltd. has provided expert, researched appraisals of nearly all antique and other collectible categories (except automobiles, jewelry) to private individuals and others. Trained as an Art Historian, Mr. Dose received his degrees from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL and taught art history at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, II, from 1974-5, Colgate University 1976-1980 and Ray College (formerly Ray-Vogue School of Design, presently the Illinois Institute of Art, Chicago, IL), from 1985-1996. He has lectured extensively, and given over 100 "Antiques Roadshow" format lectures to various groups in the Chicago area. In addition to other publications, he co-authored the book, The Appraisal of Fine Art and Antiques, with Dennis Minichello, Esq.
Areas appraised include American, British and continental furniture, Americana, antiquities, art, rugs, silver and liturgical silver, books, porcelain and ceramics, glass and crystal, decorative arts and furnishings, numismatics, Oriental, S.E. Asian and Indian art, tribal and ethnographic arts, etc. Specialties include original cartoon art, and archaeological art and artifacts from prehistoric times forward, including Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art. Appraisals are performed for various purposes: insurance, estate, trust, division, probate, divorce, gifts and donations, etc. Other services include fiduciary property disposition counseling, consultation for purchase or sale, and pricing for house sales, although Mr. Dose is not a dealer or agent for any dealer or auction house.
